Education

Education Policy

INRASTES research teams have a strong commitment to graduate and post graduate education and training. Ph.D. candidates carry out their dissertation research under the supervision of the Institute’s researchers. Owing to the interdisciplinary character of the research programs, degrees are awarded in collaboration with Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Medical, Physics and Mathematics Departments. The Institute offers five courses yearly in advanced topics in Medicine Physics, Molecular Biology, Radiopharmacy and Immunochemistry. Some of the Institute’s recent Ph.D. graduates have gone on to postdoctoral positions at Universities in Europe and the US while others pursue careers in the Greek industry and academia.
Additionally, a large number of undergraduate students from Greek Universities and Technological Institutes have been given the opportunity for internships on selected topics that were carried out at the Institute’s premises.
The Table ► presents the total number of undergraduate  and graduate students at the Institute, according to registered activities. Among these students, are recipients of the NCSR “Demokritos” Graduate Fellowship.
Please visit the web page of the Office of Graduate Education of NCSR Demokritos for more information, and the central NCSR Demokritos  for announcements for PhD candidates financed though research programmes.

Presentations of PhD candidates

INRASTES researchers supervise many PhD candidates, in collaboration with Academic institutions in Greece and abroad. The candidates are invited to present their research in a regular cycle of presentations held at the Institute. Graduate Courses & Summer Schools

INRASTES researchers participate actively as tutors in a large number of Postgraduate Programs organized by Universities, the Greek Atomic Energy Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in areas ranging from Radiation Physics, Nuclear Reactor Safety, Nuclear Analytical Techniques and Radiopharmaceutics to Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics and Protein Chemistry.
The Institute’s staff has actively contributed to the annual Summer Schools organized by NCSR Demokritos by delivering lectures and carrying out laboratory demonstrations and tours.

Professional Training

The Institute constitutes a unique Training Center for the technical staff of the Radiopharmaceutical industry in the country. Specifically, the vast majority of the Radiochemistry Labs of the Nuclear Medicine Clinics as well as the PET/SPECT industrial production units employ Production and Quality Assurance Managers who have been trained / educated at INRASTES. Furthermore, the Institute has served as a training site for a large number of employees in the Greek Pharmaceutical Industry in general and in biodiagnostic service providing companies.
In addition, INRASTES organizes regularly radiation protection seminars for the personnel of the National Security Forces and particularly the staff of the Police, the Fire Department and those dealing with airport / airline security issues professionals from countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia.
